The Ideal Apprenticeship Job, and Why?

There are several apprenticeship jobs I want and none of them are very common. One of them is selling pottery. Pawpaw is a potter. He makes pitchers, bowls, cups, platters, you name it, he can make it as long as it’s not super, duper fancy. He made a platter once that had a curved edge. I can’t explain what it looked like but it was super cool. If you ask him to do something, he’ll eventually do it. It might take him a while because that’s not his fulltime job. It’s just a hobby. In order to start, you need the proper clay, not just any clay will do. It’s got to hold together well when it’s dry and it has to survive the high heat it takes to make it a pot. Most often, different clays are blended. Once you have your clay, you have to knead it like dough. This is called wedging. Its purpose is to not only make sure the clay is blended well but more importantly to get rid of all the air bubbles in the clay. They wreak havoc! They make your walls weak and can cause the Pitney to explode when it’s fired. The reason I want to work as a potter is that I like doing stuff with my hands. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty. In fact, I kind of like it. I like making stuff with my hands. Also, I would get to work with Pawpaw. That’s the main reason. He’s been all over the place and

Another job I would like is to do what my dad does part-time. He has a coffee business. It’s called Straight Joe Coffee. He gets green coffee beans shipped to him from Guatemala and Uraguay and places like that. Then he roasts them in a big roaster that he and a friend built. After that, he cools them off and picks out the burnt beans, because no matter how careful a person is, you can’t get all the coffee beans just perfect all the time. After he cools them off, he takes them into what we call ‘The Bean Barn.’ It’s a facility where he sorts and packages the coffee beans. He’s working on expanding his business and I want to be the next employee. I would like to always have someone with my current last name in the business. Even though I don’t have a job there yet, I have plans for the business. I want to move to a different location, for one thing. But before I get too many ideas, I need to get hired and I don’t think that will happen anytime soon. Plus, I would get to work with my dad all the time. And I could learn how to make fancy coffee drinks.

Well, that’s all I have for this essay. Before I close, I want to thank my thirty-fourth follower, Vincent Ehindero of Vincent Ehindero. Please follow him. Vincent, I want to thank you for following my blog. I appreciate it more than you know.
